Sondre Evjen to make Euro RX Supercar debut with JC Raceteknik in Latvia
Rising Norwegian talent Sondre Evjen will make the step up to Supercar for the final round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship at Riga in Latvia next month with JC Raceteknik.
The 20-year-old has amassed a significant amount of rallycross experience in recent years, both at national and international level. For the last three seasons, Evjen has competed in the single-make Supercar Lites category in the FIA World Rallycross Championship (the RX2 International Series) and in RallyX Nordic with Swedish team JC Raceteknik.
Evjen has claimed wins in both series, including at the most recent round of RallyX Nordic in Denmark. He is currently third in the RallyX Nordic Supercar Lites points with two rounds remaining (in Finland and Sweden), while he is sixth in RX2, which also has two rounds left this season in France and South Africa.
But, for the final round of Euro RX Supercar at the Bikernieki National Sports Base on September 15-16, he will join regular JC Raceteknik Supercar drivers Thomas Bryntesson and Ola Froshaug. Evjen will race a Volkswagen Polo Supercar at the circuit where he won in 2016 in RX2.
A full entry of 30 Supercars is set to take part in the Riga event, including former World RX drivers, RX2 Champions and National and European Rallycross Champions.

"This will be very exciting. Supercar is something totally new for Sondre, but he is humble about the task ahead of him. We’ve seen many drivers progress from Supercar Lites to Supercar and quickly make an impact, which proves how good Supercar Lites is as a feeder category for Supercar. The competition in Euro RX Supercar is always really tough, but Riga is probably the toughest event you could make your Supercar debut in. It will be hard for Sondre, but at the same time, I don’t think qualifying for the semi-finals is an unrealistic goal.”

“Getting to race in a European Championship Supercar race feels absolutely amazing. Motorsport is more than just a hobby for me, I want to go all the way to the top in rallycross and I’m pushing to develop as a driver all the time. My long-term goal is to compete in the World Championship and now I will race a Supercar in Riga. It’s a big step in the right direction for me and an incredible opportunity that I’m so happy to get.
"I will be driving a VW Polo. It's a competitive car, which means the results will be down to me and not the car. I will do everything I can to get the best results possible and the goal is to get into the semi-finals. But, overall this is all about gaining experience, and to enjoy it.
"This would never have been possible without the support of my Dad, or Joel (Christoffersson). Both have done so much to help me in my career. I’m also so grateful to all of the people and sponsors who support me in different ways in my development. It's really reassuring to know that you have good people behind you. We are renting the car for this event, what happens after that we will see. Of course it would be amazing to race in Supercar next season, but that is down to a lot of things, including budget. Right now, I can’t wait for Riga.”
