Second 2018 RX2 podium for Evjen with JC Raceteknik at Silverstone
Driving for Swedish team JC Raceteknik, Norwegian Sondre Evjen scored his second podium finish of 2018 in round two of the RX2 International Series at Silverstone (May 27) and lies third in the championship standings, just four points off the lead.
It was the first time that an international rallycross event had been held at the historic Silverstone Formula 1 circuit in England and Evjen delivered a consistent performance through the qualifying stages of the event, only once outside the top five times (in Q3).
He then battled through a challenging semi-final two from third on the grid to score race victory and line up on the front row for the final, before the 20-year old finished the last race of the weekend in third to close the gap to the top of the championship.
Henrik Krogstad’s weekend started well, with third fastest time in Q1. He made it to the semi-finals despite a roll in Q2, but his hopes of progressing to the final were set back when he had to avoid an incident on the first lap of the semi-final and lost too much time. Classified eighth at Silverstone, Krogstad is fifth in the points.
It was an up-and-down weekend for round one winner Ben-Philip Gundersen, who struggled with technical problems, but did win his race to set the second fastest time in Q3. He made it into the semi-finals but didn’t progress any further. 10th in the event, Gundersen is fourth in the drivers’ standings.
William Nilsson ensured that all four JC Raceteknik drivers qualified for the semi-finals, but the young Swede was slowed by a misfire in the semi and finished sixth to be classified 12th overall and ninth in the points.

JC Raceteknik will return to action for the second round of RallyX Nordic next weekend in Arvika, Sweden (June 3), just a week before round three of the RX2 International Series at Hell in Norway (June 8 – 10).

"We are pleased with the third place for Sondre. He has been very consistent all weekend and has collected important points for the championship. We again got all of our cars into the semi-finals, but it wasn’t easy for the other three drivers. William had good pace here this weekend but an electrical problem meant he couldn’t make the final. Henrik even showed good speed in Q2 when he rolled and was still 13th fastest, but he lost a lot of time at the start of the semi-final. Otherwise I absolutely think he could have been fighting for the podium again. Ben-Philip had a sensor problem on Saturday and lost positions. He had the speed but starting from the back on a narrow track makes it difficult to overtake. The championship is very close this year with many fast drivers, and we have three drivers in the top five in the points. That feels good for the upcoming RX2 races.”
RX2: Sondre Evjen (NOR) :
"It feels great to be on the podium, these are the results we are working for at each event. The weekend started well, I was third after Q2 but in Q3 I had bad pace at the start and was not happy with the time. But, we made some changes to the car which worked well. I won the semi-final but didn’t make a great start in the final and came out third from turn two. Unfortunately, the speed was not enough to win today, but I'm really happy anyway. I'm third in the championship and only four points behind the leader so everything can happen. Now we are going to Norway and Sweden for the next two races and I aim to continue fighting for the championship lead. "
