Euro RX victory for JC Raceteknik and Robin Larsson in Hell - Gundersen second in RX2

JC Raceteknik secured a double podium in the Norwegian round of the FIA European Rallycross Championship and RX2 International Series with star drivers Robin Larsson and Ben-Philip Gundersen.

Racing the team’s Audi S1 Supercar, Larsson took his second straight win in the Euro RX Supercar category at the second round in Hell. He began the weekend with fastest time in Free Practice, won two qualifiers to finished top in the Intermediate Classification, then won semi-final one to take pole position for the final.

In the final, despite heavy rain making the conditions extremely challenging, Larsson again ran at the front of the field and drove a mature race to score his second win of the year, with another maximum points haul to further extend his Championship lead.

In RX2, Gundersen showed good pace throughout the weekend, and was quickest of all in Q1. He ended up second in the Intermediate Classification, won semi-final two and finished second in the final behind the Championship leader in another strong weekend for the Norwegian driver. For Swede Jimmie Walfridson, it was his first time racing in Hell, but he quickly found a good rhythm and took a race victory on track. He challenged for a place in the final through the semis but just missed out on the top three.

The next event for both Euro RX and the RX2 International Series at JC Raceteknik’s home round at Holjes on July 5-7.

Joel Christoffersson, Team Principal:
“It was a really good event for the whole team with two podiums. For Robin, it was a brilliant weekend. The pace has been there all season, but he has also showed he can be very smart through the weekend. When the rain began to pour down before the finals, it was a little stressful for all of us, but Robin still kept calm and made impressive times, faster than the entire World Championship field. Extending the championship lead means we have a good feeling doing to the next round of Euro RX at Höljes.

In RX2 we raised the pace one more step this weekend. We are closing on the cars at the top and have shown we can challenge. Ben-Philip was great in Hell. He started out really fast and has climbed in the championship. Jimmie has developed a lot this year already and shown that he is at the top. He had a consistent run this weekend and was third into the semi-final, but there he didn’t quite have the speed. Both Ben-Philip and Jimmie like the track in Höljes, so that is a good boost going to The Magic Weekend.”

Supercar: Robin Larsson (SWE) :
“This feels really nice. It has been a consistent weekend for me, which went according to plan all the time. But, the rain made it a bit unnecessarily exciting. I know I have the speed in the dry, but I hadn’t driven the car in the wet before, so I was a bit nervous. But, apparently that also worked well. We have taken full points in the championship and considering that there are only a few rounds, each point is important. The car worked like clockwork, now we are working to get to know it even better. Going to the next event at my favourite track with two straight wins in the bag feels really good.”

RX2: Ben-Philip Gundersen (NOR) :
“I’m happy with the podium position and it was especially good to score this result in front of the Norwegian crowd. Even though it’s second, it feels like a win. Oliver [Eriksson] has been in his own class this season and I have never had a good result before at this track. Having good pace and clean ruins from the start gave a good feeling, and the team did a great job with everything. Slowly but surely we are climbing up in the Championship. The next race at Holjes is somewhere I have already had good results this year, and somewhere that suits me. It’s just a matter of continuing to pick up the points.”

RX2: Jimmie Walfridson (SWE) :
“This was the first time I was driving in Hell, so it was a new track to learn. Both the car and my driving worked well and I am really happy with the whole weekend. It was bad luck just to miss the final and to be the first reserve, but I have gained a lot of experience this weekend. The next race for me will be Holjes, and there is something extra special to race for that crowd. I’m really looking forward to it.”
